RALPH AT LARGE

A 1997 ROAD TRIP

In 1997 Lenore and I drove fom Osoyoos, British Columbia, down the west side of the US to the border with Mexico, back up to Vancouver Island, Port Renfrew, the furthest west we could get, then across Canada to Cape Spear, the furthest East.

The road trip took seven months. We travelled in a battered Chevrolet panel van we nicknamed "Thunder" because of its throaty exhaust (thanks to Lenore's father), fitted out with cupboards and shelves. Apart from about four nights spent in motels and about the same number staying with family and friends, we camped every night.

Our adventure took us from British Columbia through Washington, Nevada, Arizona, California, Oregon, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana and back to Osoyoos, BC.

Road trip images

Most of these images are low resolution scans of shop-quality 6x4 prints and some 35mm transparencies. Some are stills from VHS video. I shall eventually scan the negatives and transparencies at a higher quality, but that will have to wait until I acquire a film/transparency scanner!

There are also a million captions to add (that's if I can remember where the photos were taken)!

Working on this section, March 2022!
